True Colors…

September 10, 2010

The current uproar over the proposed (and currently suspended, maybe) burning of Korans by a Florida pastor has shown the world the true color of Islam. Many of its followers do not respect my faith, my country nor my flag and yet they expect me to respect theirs and if I don’t they threaten me with violence and death, all the while proclaiming to be a religion of peace.

Makes me think of the line from that great song Star Trekking by Wierd Al “We come in piece, shoot to kill, shoot to kill.”

But all joking aside, don’t you get the impression that Islam is a Religion whose ‘word’ is spread through fear rather than peace. Historically Christianity is not innocent in that approach though either, although it’s been a while since the Crusades!

I can’t help but feel there’s one hell of a scrap coming though.

Should we live in fear?

I can’t say that I think the plan to burn a load of Korans by the pastor of a church is a good idea but at the same time I have to question the outpouring of threats of violence by the Islamic community.

It seems to me that anytime anyone so much as even hints at doing something against the religion a large subset of that community resorts to violence as the answer. Looks to me to be very much a case of ‘live life our way or we will kill you’.

Here’s the thing. If you want to live peaceably at the side of me then that’s fine. But as s soon as you start to say that your way of life is superior to mine they we are going to have a problem and whilst I may not be so quick to anger, I will get angry and I will fight for my rights.

You have been warned.

And they wonder why we don’t take them seriously…

From the BBC:

Iranian cleric ‘blames quakes on promiscuous women’

“Many women who do not dress modestly lead young men astray and spread adultery in society which increases earthquakes,” he said.

There’s not a lot more I can add really is there? Well there is but it boils down to the fact that if we left it to religious ‘leaders’, we’d still be in the dark ages believing that illness was caused by demons. ‘Nuff said!

There’s nothing like progress…

And this is nothing like progress.

Indonesia’s province of Aceh has passed a new law making adultery punishable by stoning to death.

Gotta love these fundamentalist regions for making me thank god (or whoever) that I live in a free country, free being relative of course but not the less, I am free to practice or not practice any faith I choose.

Sometimes I think these countries are living more in the 15th century than the 21st and we all know how the well the Spanish Inquisition went (thanks to Monty Python).
